The Mayakovsky Library hosted a presentation of the Toponymic Web Portal of St. Petersburg

February 10, 2022 the presentation of Toponymic Web Portal of St. Petersburg took a place in the Vladimir Mayakovsky Central City Public Library. The Toponymic Web Portal is a unique information resource developed by specialists from Institute for Cultural Programs.

Toponim Web portalThe Toponymic Web Portal plays an important role in the preserving the historical memory of cultural objects of the city, developing this direction as a separate unique knowledge and involving new faces in local history.

The presentation of a new resource attracted a large circle of experts in the field of local history, history and culture of St. Petersburg. They participated online and offline.

Participants of the presentation repeatedly noted the importance of holding the event: for young local historians and for further cooperation of organization with a new Toponymic Web Portal of St. Petersburg.

Representatives of the web portal development team introduced colleagues to the structure and composition of the resource. They noted that the resource would present the following aspects: information about work of the St. Petersburg Toponymic Commission, news of toponymy, scientific researches, special events, rules and traditions of assigning city names.

Now, the Toponymic Web Portal of St. Petersburg is the only internet resource of its kind that offers unique information about the St. Petersburg’s history for a wide range of users – specialists in history, culture, architecture, etc. and for all of those who are interested in the culture and history of the city.

The resource also contains the first and only encyclopedic collection in Russia in a systematic way, recreating a complete toponymic picture of the city throughout its 319-year history.

Specialists from Institute for Cultural Programs developed the portal with an active participation of the Toponymic Commission of St. Petersburg.
